Happy Labor Day, SECS! Thank you to everyone who came out to our first meeting and got to check out the super cool stained class at Channing Murray.
This week, our SECS-y working groups will start meeting. Feel free to check out whatever group interests you! Make sure to bring a computer!
Fossil Free Addendum will provide an overview on SECS’ legislative work this past year and provide some helpful resources for the Illinois House of Representatives.
Action will hit the ground running with planning for our upcoming Climate Strike.
Media will start brainstorming their next outstanding art project.
Education will be planning for the Franklin Middle School block party along with an upcoming teach-in.
Solidarity Gardens will be taking inventory of current plants and projects!
Our next meeting is Wednesday, September 4th at 6:30 p.m. in the basement of the Channing Murray Foundation (1209 W. Oregon Street).

We are having our first incredible camping trip of the year this weekend, from September 6th-7th. There’s still time to sign up if you’re interested. Fill out this form and bring $5 to Wednesday’s meeting to secure your spot. Don’t forget to put yourself on the carpooling sheet!

4th Annual Reimagine our Future Sustainability Competition!
This undergraduate sustainability competition asks students to develop an innovate plan or solution that promotes one or more of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while taking account of other relevant SDGs. In doing so, students will address a particular sustainability problem or challenge which could be at a local, regional, national, or international level anywhere in the world. Register by October 7th! More info here.

TORIIS.earth is an organization that makes transparent the University of Illinois Systems investments and visualizes this data through an environmental lens. Throughout TORIIS, you can explore in depth the University of Illinois Systems’ investments, understand the scope and impact of its investments in the fossil fuel industry, and take action by signing the open letter requesting fossil fuel divestment from the University of Illinois.
